Peoria County looking at courthouse repair options post-flood

Peoria County is considering different ways to repair damage from a flood earlier this month at the county Courthouse. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports:

The flood put three courtrooms temporarily out of service and damaged the circuit clerk’s office. Assistant County Administrator Scott Sorrel says one rebuild option is to work with the 10th circuit judges as the chief judge considers moving some court functions into different rooms.

“If we’re going to start a long term project to rehabilitate courtrooms in general, then we want to do these first three right.”

Sorrel says the County could also hire an architect then bid out the service for a contractor, or save some time by having both parties work together simultaneously on the rebuild. Sorrel says it’s still unclear why the H-VAC system failed to notify staff about the initial water leak. He says staff should know final damage costs in the coming weeks.
