The annual Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition Breakfast unveils the Illinois Youth Survey results Wednesday. The survey conducted by the University of Illinois, included 4-thousand students in 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th grades.
Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll chairs the coalition. She says it’s particularly hard to see the number of drug-related deaths increase:
“Whether they be prescription med or illicit drugs and I see the age range, that we have increase in the younger generation, dating back from 2012 when the coalition first came together.”
Ingersoll says the coalition is also asking those at the breakfast to offer input on the best ways for the community to move forward with the information. The events also offers exhibits and presentations on different ways to identify risk behavior in teens.
