Schock: attempted burglary happened after media reports

Peoria Congressman Aaron Schock says the media reports about his rental residence were an invitation to criminals.

Two men armed with a hand gun were arrested at Schock’s rental residence over the weekend for attempted burglary. The men, who have criminal records, were found on the property with a media article that detailed the Congressman’s address.

The 18th District Congressman says that article and the initial report on Peoria Public Radio about his rental residence being in foreclosure left it vulnerable to criminal activity. Schock also questions the news value of the story.

"Perhaps the media needs to take a breath before they rush out and start running things to say okay, is this a fair story, is this really legit news, before we broadcast to not just the Peoria region, but clearly to the country.”

The Congressman says it’s also been a difficult situation for his neighbors, who have experienced an increase in traffic in addition to this instance of criminal activity.
