Peoria County animal services sees gains in 2014

Peoria County Animal Protection Services is placed more cat and dogs last year compared to 2013. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports:

PCAPS reduced euthanasia services by 23-percent last year. Lauren Malmberg is the Director of Peoria County Animal Protection Services. She says the reduction comes as the county boosted promotion to adopt cats and dogs and reduced fees last year:

“And also, because I think nationally we’re all experiencing a decrease in the number of animals that actually need care. So we’re very fortunate that our spay neuter program seemed to be working and fewer animals are actually coming into the shelter.”

Malmberg says in addition PCAPS transferred twice as many cats and dogs to other groups for adoption. She says five-percent-fewer dogs and nine-percent fewer cats also came into the county’s animal shelter.
