Pekin police investigating fake home invasion call

Pekin police are investigating a prank call that led to a family being briefly detained early Sunday morning.

A statement from the department says officers were called to the 200 block of Cooper Street on a report of a home invasion. The caller identified herself as a 14-year old female who claimed a man was holding her and her mother hostage at gunpoint.

Officers set up a perimeter around the home, and the Central Illinois Emergency Response team was called in. The residents of the home woke up an hour later and were unaware of the situation. They were briefly detained and questioned.

It was determined the call was a prank.
