Peoria's University St in line for work

The City of Peoria is in the process of right of way acquisitions along its busiest North/South Street.

Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich says the funding is in place for upgrades to University Street from Nebraska north to War Memorial Drive.

"The intent behind it with the right of way acquisition is to build a five lane road that will have a center turn lane and two travel lanes [each direction] through that entire stretch. We want to make sure that we address the sidewalks as well as we move through that area.”

Urich says the city is also aiming to move the utility lines underground in the commercial corridor of University Street from Forest Hill to War Memorial Drive. Urich says the goal is to get the project completed this year.
