Harry Belafonte calls for racial progress at MLK luncheon

An internationally-known singer, actor and activist was the keynote speaker at Peoria's Martin Luther King Luncheon. Peoria  Public Radio's Alex Rusciano reports:

Harry Belafonte was also a close friend of Doctor King. He says the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri and New York are a call for more racial and economic equality:

“We still sit in a dark place when it comes to justice, and that our young people are speaking out loud and clear on that subject.”

Belafonte also says the educational, religious and legal systems need to do more to discuss racial issues. The annual Martin Luther King Freedom March was also held from Bradley University to Mount Zion Baptist Church.
