The General Wayne Downing Peoria International Airport had another record-breaking year for passengers. Nearly 640-thousand people used the airport in 2014.
This is the first time the facility boasted more than 600,000 passengers. Airport Director Gene Olson says it’s also an eight-percent increase over 2013.
“Business travel has come back to the market pretty strongly. Allegiant has added a couple of new destinations recently, and we’re seeing strong patronage of the other existing Allegiant routes. So, it’s a combination of both business and leisure travel that we’re seeing.”
Olson says he expects this year to perform well with the recent addition of flights to Orlando-Sanford and Houston.
Construction has also begun on a new international arrivals building. The more than eight-million dollar facility opens next spring, and will allow for international travel and continued growth of domestic service.
