Peoria intersection to be named for Wayne McClain

An intersection near the Peoria high school where Wayne McClain won three Illinois state basketball championships will be named in honor of the former Fighting Illini assistant coach.
The intersection of Lincoln and Griswold streets, in front of Manual Academy, on Jan. 15 will be named after Coach Wayne McClain. McClain, who suffered from lung cancer, died in October at age 59.
McClain was an assistant coach at Illinois from 2002 through 2012. He made his reputation as a coach at Manual High School, where he won state titles there in his first three seasons in the mid-1990s.
McClain returned to Champaign-Urbana to become head coach at Champaign Central in the spring of 2013 after one season on Bruce Weber's staff at Kansas State.
