Salvation Army's Red Kettles finish strong

The Peoria Area Salvation Army closed its annual Red Kettle campaign Saturday with more than $252,000.

That totals about 72% of the Salvation Army’s annual Tree of Lights fundraising goal.

The annual Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign is part of the agency’s $1.67 million fundraising effort. The money is used for youth programs and other community activities throughout the coming year.

The Kroger’s in Peoria, East Peoria & Washington, as well at the HyVee in Sheridan Village, and Schnucks kept the Red Kettles and bell ringers Friday and Saturday to help the social service agency get closer to the goal. The total does not yet include those proceeds.

The Salvation Army is about $475,000 away from it’s annual goal and is still taking contributions.
