Peoria County projects $2M in early retirement savings

Nearly 40 Peoria County employees are retiring early at the end of the year. The program is set to save the county more than $2 million. County Administrator Lori Curtis Luther says the county will still need to backfill some of the positions:
“If it were possible to not fill any of these positions, then we would have met our target. However, I know that is not a reality.”

Luther says both the retirement program and attrition in the coming months will add to the savings. Some County Board members have expressed caution about backfilling positions as the county looks to cut costs.
