Peoria Council OKs medical marijuana process changes

The Peoria City Council approved zoning changes for medical marijuana sites that supporters say bring more transparency.

The zoning changes will require future cannabis cultivation or dispensing sites to go through a public-hearing process. Councilwoman Beth Jensen says the changes throw more sunlight on the medical cannabis process for residents:

“And give them an opportunity to provide input before it comes to the council and before it is approved.”

The zoning changes do not apply to Peoria’s currently proposed dispensary and cultivation sites. Some residents voiced opposition and support to the dispensary site proposed on Willow Knolls. The Council also approved lowering fines for parking along emergency snow routes.
