Direct flights to Houston coming soon at PIA

The General Wayne Downing Peoria International Airport will soon be offering a new destination. United Airlines is launching daily service from Peoria to Houston in March.

Airport Director Gene Olson says the business community and leisure travelers have been asking for this service for some time.

“We’re actually sending quite a few people to Houston today, even without direct flights. So, people are connecting to get there.”

Olson says United also plans to dump its daily flight from Peoria to Denver in January.

“If you look at the performance from Peoria to Denver, it has been declining for a number of years. So, we’ve seen fewer people getting on that airplane and we’ve seen the fares not generating as much revenue for United.”

Olson says airport officials are working to regain the Denver flight. But he says Houston offers more connecting opportunities for international travel, and was requested by the business community.

The once-a day flight will depart Peoria at six in the morning and return at 9:20 at night. More information is available at united.comand flypia.com.
