Peoria Heights dissolves ambulance service

Peoria Heights no longer has its own ambulance service. The village board voted to end the service Tuesday to save money.

The action comes after a vote by residents rejecting a property tax increase to keep the Advanced Life Support service running. The Journal Star reports the department was reportedly costing Peoria Heights 200-thousand dollars a year. The vote to dissolve the local ambulance service means the loss of 30 jobs.

The village board also last night approved a contract with Advanced Medical Transport to provide 24-hour emergency medical services for the village. The length and total cost of the contract is unclear.
