Group releases ‘Trouble in Toyland’ report

An Illinois organization is warning people of dangerous children’s toys as the holiday shopping season is underway. The Illinois Public Interest Research Group released its 29th annual toy safety report Wednesday at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.  Doctor Leon Yeh directs emergency services for O-S-F.  He says parents can take safety steps with new toys:

“Make sure the toys are in good repair. Any battery compartments are secured with a screw. Because if those come open, the child can have access to the button battery inside.”

Yeh says parents can also use a toilet paper roll to test if small toys pose a choking hazard.  A list of this year’s risky toys is available at toysafetytips.org.
