Peoria Council approves $3M loan to sports complex

The Peoria City Council approved a three-million-dollar-loan to the developer of the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex.  Peoria Public Radio's Alex Rusciano reports:

The council approved the loan nine to two. City Manager Patrick Urich says the sports complex and hotel will help boost interest in the city:

“We’re looking to try and increase tourism activity in the city. And this is one way that we can do that by encouraging this to move forward.”

Urich says the loan allows the complex to open by next June.  Councilmembers Akeson and Weaver voted against the matter, expressing concern that staff wasn't aware of a previous lack of financing from the developer.
