Millions to travel over Thanksgiving holiday

More than 46-million people are expected to take to the nation’s highways and airports over the Thanksgiving holiday. AAA Travel reports that’s the highest volume of travelers since 2007, and a more than four-percent increase over last year.

Two-million of those travelers are expected to be from Illinois. A majority plan to use their vehicles to get to their destinations. The average cost of gas in the state is $2.96.

The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is between Wednesday and Sunday.

The General Wayne Downing Peoria International Airport has a few tips for those flying over the Thanksgiving holiday.

The airport is recommending passengers arrive at the facility 90 minutes before their scheduled departures. Officials say that will allow travelers the ability to adjust to any glitches that might pop up.

Those flying out of PIA are also being asked to visit their airlines’ websites to confirm flight times and print boarding passes before heading to the airport.
