City Council to talk big-spending issues next year

The City of Peoria is considering a budget that largely maintains the status-quo for 2015.  Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports major issues will be left for future budgets:
Proposed changes to next year’s budget include delayed capital equipment upgrades, extra money for road salt and expanding the police, ’ShotSpotter’ program. But City manager Patrick Urich says the current budget doesn’t address significant pension, road and sewer-system spending:

“Many of the issues that we’re facing in the city are structural. The challenges that we face are long-term.”

To that end, Urich says he wants to have earlier discussions on the 2016 budget next year. The Council votes on changes to the 2015 budget next week.
