Unemployment falls in Peoria area, despite yearly job loss

The unemployment rate fell in every metro area in the state for the sixth month in a row. The Illinois Department of Employment Security is reporting an unemployment rate of 6.6-percent in September for the Peoria area. That’s a nearly 2.7-percent decline from the same time last year. The rate is also a .5 percent from August. The Peoria area lost 1,100 jobs even though unemployment declined year-over-year. The largest loss occurred in Retail Trade jobs. There were job gains in Wholesale Trade, and Construction.
