The Caterpillar Visitors Center celebrates its history

The Caterpillar Visitors Center has a new exhibit called Traditions of Manufacturing.

Kathryn Spitznagle is with the Visitors Center. She says the main themes of the exhibit are the safety, quality, and employee recognition through the history of Caterpillar.

Spitznagle says it’s a display of Caterpillar employees throughout the years and pride in manufacturing. “What we’re pretty sure we’re going to see this time is ‘I never saw my dad working, you know, I grew up and knew he worked at Caterpillar and never knew what he did exactly. But now, he’s in a picture that I can see that I have never seen before of my dad, in his craft, on the shop floor.”

The exhibit has 150 different artifacts, about 60 photos, and a documentary film that shows how manufacturing has evolved since the 1920s. The exhibit runs through February.

The Caterpillar Visitors Center is also nearing it’s two year anniversary. Spitznagle says the facility has had more than 175 thousand visitors since it opening, with people coming from 40 countries.
