Residents asked to participate in earthquake drill

in.gov

Area residents are being encouraged to practice what they’d do in the event of an earthquake. The Peoria Fire Department Office of Emergency Management is asking residents, schools, and businesses to participate in the “Great American Shakeout,” the world’s largest earthquake drill.

The goal of the fourth annual event is to help people think about what to do before, during and after an earthquake. The drill calls for residents to practice dropping to the floor, taking cover under a sturdy desk or table, and holding on until the shaking stops. The drill is scheduled for 10:16 Thursday morning, and will last for one minute.

Participants are also asked to register for the event online where advice about earthquake preparedness is available.
