The Peoria Park District’s Lakeview Recreation Center is getting an upgrade thanks to some financial help from the state.
Governor Pat Quinn announced a Park and Recreational Facility Construction grant of $2.5 million. The Governor says rebuilding and renovating the existing Center means jobs and so much more. “You know, you get what your pay for. and if you invest in a park it pays dividends for a lifetime. There young men and women who are here today they’re going to remember the things they did in the park district and their going to make friends and making news friends. And we want to continue that all across our state.”
The money is allowing the Park District to develop a new multi-purpose gymnasium for expanded programming, replace air conditioning in the existing gym and constructing a new outdoor playground. The state grant is also paying for the demolition of a non-functional portion of the facility and the replacement of roofing at the facility.
The total project is $3.4 million. The Lakeview Recreation Center is the former YWCA building and provides a variety of programs for all ages.
The Park and Recreational Facility Construction grant money is part of 25-million dollars being awarded across the state.
