Medical Cannibis not on East Peoria agenda

The idea of placing a medical marijuana cultivation center or dispensary in the City of East Peoria may not go any further. The city council elected to pull the measure from its agenda that would update the city’s zoning code for placement of the facilities. The council also decided not to vote on the the two proposed Medical Marijuana dispensaries looking to make application with the state.

Clay Moushon is with Illinois Herbal Remedies Incorporated that is applying for a dispensary on Farmdale Road near Route 8. He says he was surprised to hear the council was not ready to vote. Regardless, Moushon says time is short.

Moushon: "Everybody’s groups are in place. When we talk about a Monday deadline it’s we are not talking about a hypothetical. I mean the deadline is 3:00 on Monday. Everything has to hand delivered and paid. If you’re not there. You’re not there. That’s the end of story.”

The application fee for a dispensary license is $5,000 and the cultivation center fee is $25,000.

Moushon says his group has the recommendation of the East Peoria Zoning Board and can go with the application if the Council elects not to call a special meeting.

East Peoria Commissioner Gary Densberger says one council member is on vacation and the measures could have failed if the other council members voted last night.

The East Peoria City Council has to give 48-hours notice prior to meeting.
