Quinn touts program to make military personnel homeowners

Tanya Koonce

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn traveled the state today touting the Welcome Home Heroes Homeownership Program.

The Democratic Governor says more than 16-hundred active military personnel, reservists and National Guard Members have used the program since the inception of the program three years ago. It offers military personnel and veterans low interest rates and up to 10-thousand dollars in down payment assistance.

Governor Quinn spoke about the program from the Peoria residence of Veteran Laura Jordan. Governor Quinn says the program that’s embedded in the Illinois Jobs Now Capital Bill has helped veterans access more than 200-million dollars statewide.

“For the first time ever, in Illinois, in this Capital Bill that was a five year bill, we put money in for building and helping people get housing.”

Governor Quinn says homeownership is good for the economy because of the goods and services residency requires. More than 160 veterans and military personnel in the Tri- County area have used the Welcome Home Heroes Homeownership Program.
