The Republican looking to unseat 17th District Congresswoman Cheri Bustos says the Democrat is unwilling to participate in more than one debate.

Bobby Schilling and Bustos are set to face-off in an October TV debate in Moline. But Schilling says his campaign has asked to do multiple debates in larger cities within the 17th district, including Peoria and Rockford.

“I think it’s a shame when you have someone running for a public office and they’re unwilling to debate because I think it’s only fair to the voter that they get to see who they’re supporting and not just going off commercials that run across the TV and the radio.”

A spokesman with the Bustos campaign says the debate in Moline will be shared with other TV stations within the 17th district. It will also be streamed live online. The spokesperson says Bustos will also continue traveling the region to meet with and hear directly from voters in the run-up to the November election.
