Illinois officials continue to collect public comment on the pilot medical marijuana program that went into effect this year. Representatives from the Departments of Agriculture, Financial and Professional Regulations and Public Health were in Peoria Monday for a town hall meeting.
The meeting was to answer questions from those applying for medical cannabis as patients and caregivers. Those wanting to apply cultivation center and dispensary licenses were also at the event. Bob Morgan is the statewide project coordinator for the Illinois Medical Cannabis Pilot Program. He says the application process begins in September.
“The more public comment we receive, the better the program turns out to be. So we’ve already made a number of changes based on the comments we’ve received and we expect that to continue.”
Some of those changes include reducing the application fee for patients and re-working security standards for cultivation centers and dispensaries. Questions and comments on the pilot program can also be made on the Medical Cannabis Pilot Program website.
