The Peoria Police Department and Peoria County Sheriff are preparing for Labor Day. Both agencies have instituted the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Impaired Driving Crackdown.
The effort is focusing on the deadliest time of day for motor vehicle fatalities, intensifying enforcement against late-night impaired drivers and seat belt law violators.
The midnight to 3 a.m. timeframe is the deadliest on Illinois roads according to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It’s also the highest percentage of alcohol involvement and the lowest seat belt use.
The Peoria County Sheriff and Police Department recommend planning ahead before an outing, designating a sober driver or take a taxi.
