The Salvation Army of Peoria is getting a more than $1.6 million grant to help combat veterans homelessness. The grant was awarded by the Department of Veterans Affairs to fund the fourth year of the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program. The program works with private non-profit organizations like the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army program provides services to very low-income veteran families living in, or transitioning to permanent housing.
The new grant helps fund service providers who offer veterans and their families case management, and assistance in obtaining V-A and other benefits.
The grant can also be used to help provide temporary financial assistance for rent, utility payments, and security deposits. The Humility of Mary Shelter that serves Rock Island and Henry Counties also received grants for the same program.
