Emerald ash borer detected in Peoria, Tazewell counties

The state Department of Agriculture has confirmed emerald ash borer in Peoria and Tazewell Counties. The beetle is a destructive pest that kills millions of ash trees in North America.  State officials say the finds are significant because they’re showing up for the first time outside the boundaries of a state quarantine zone. Residents should follow quarantine guidelines by no transporting firewood products outside the counties.
