Peoria is helping with the redevelopment of three properties as part of a project to create more housing for the city’s homeless. The Council approved a 26-thousand dollar loan to the South Side Office of Concern.
City Manager Patrick Urich says the loan will help the Glendale Commons project get a good start.
"By a 26,000 dollar loan tonight the Council is really reaching out that this development goes forward. It’ll still have to go through the developing and zoning process, but it is a positive thing for the community. "
The South Side Office of Concern will use the money to buy and redevelop three units on Glendale Avenue and Morgan Street.
The City of Peoria is also preparing for the annual Night Out Against Crime. The goal is to strengthen collaboration among residents, neighborhoods businesses and police. Different neighborhood events are planned at various locations throughout Peoria on August 5th.
