The Peoria City Council deferred for two weeks the zoning changes needed for the Greeley School property.
The historic school is the Peoria Housing Authority’s proposed site for redeveloping public and market-rate apartments that would replace some of the Taft Homes.
It’s the second time the council has deferred the issue. First District Peoria City Councilwoman Denise Moore says the council is waiting to get some questions answered by the Federal Housing Authority.
"What we are trying to do to circumvent some of that is we submitted them a list of, oh I don’t know how many questions, the city council members had ask about and we are waiting for them to respond with some answers to the questions the PHA submitted to them.”
If the zoning changes are not approved at the July 22, 2014 city council meeting, it will delay the application for the Illinois Housing Development Authority grant funds for a year.
But At-Large Councilman Chuck Weaver is asking to have questions answered before the matter comes back in two weeks. His questions include how the city might secure the nearby halfway house from likely future losses and whether inside hallways are advisable in new public housing developments.
The deferral on the Greeley School project comes during the same meeting the council discussed its recent practice of deferring multiple items during each meeting.
The city of Peoria is also hosting a meeting Wednesday night on the idea of a Montessori School moving into the vacant Washington School. The meeting is at 7:00p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
