Summer cooling assistance being offered in Peoria area

The state of Illinois is offering summer cooling assistance for eligible households in the Peoria-area. Those who qualify receive a 150-dollar payment toward their electricity bill.

Households with seniors, persons with disabilities, children five or younger and people with heat-sensitive medical conditions are eligible to apply. These households must also  meet certain income eligibility requirements. 

Thursday is the only day residents can call the Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity to apply. Appointsments for application will only be accepted over the phone at 671-3900. No walk-ins will be accepted. 

Applicants should have all necessary documentation with them at the time of the application. Those include: Social Security cards for everyone in the household, income verification for the past 30 days, doctor's certification of medical condition, birth certificate and medical card for proof of age and relationship of child, and current utility bill.
