Peoria enters a Pathway to Prosperity

A newly inked Peoria based collaborative effort aims to link more kids to the jobs of the current employment marketplace. It’s called Peoria Pathways to Prosperity and encompasses seven organizations.

School District 150, ICC, the city, state and business leaders gathered at city hall Monday to sign the formal agreement.

Sam Nelson is with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. He says the Pathways to Prosperity program is from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

“It’s a very focused approach to creating career pathways; focus on students in grades 9-14 to get them on a pathway that will give them a degree or a credential. Now again, if they want to go on a get a bachelors degree, then that sets the foundation. So it’s not like we’re saying, ‘oh it’s only for jobs that require and associates or credential’.”

A working group that includes representatives of the seven signatory agencies is slated to create a set of community goals for the program by October.
