The Springdale Cemetery Management Authority unanimously approved upgrading its out-of-date computer software.
The 64 thousand dollar program will bring the neglected system to a functional capacity, supported with a 5-year guarantee. Axiom is cemetery specialized software that contains all the records of plot sites and burials with maps and accounting.
Springdale Accountant Brian Murray says the cost of the system is offset by the amount of historical records being protected.
“It’s a stable product, I mean it’s very expensive if you are just doing accounting, but I figure we’re here to protect our records, and we got 70 thousand of them. So, when you extrapolate it backwards you’re looking at, if it’s twenty cents a record per year it’s a pretty good deal, less than the cost of a postage stamp.”
The edition that the cemetery is currently running is no longer supported by the company. It's never been upgraded or had bug fixes and leaves the records open to loss and corruption.
Upgrading to the current version of the Axiom software comes with technical support, patches, and training. Yearly maintenance and upgrades costs 20 thousand dollars a year.
