The state is almost ready to make allocations for the communities hardest hit by the November 17th tornadoes.
The state is offering up 45 million dollars to compensate for the public services communities provided in the days and weeks after the tornadoes.
The city of Washington in Tazewell County was the hardest hit in the state that day when about two dozen tornadoes were on the ground.
Final numbers for monetary assistance are not yet available. But Emergency Management Agency Director Jonathon Monken says community reconstruction will be an ongoing project.
“We did get the Federal declaration for individual assistance for home reconstruction. Some of these State programs will help with home and business reconstruction as well. Those construction projects will be underway for months or even years afterward.”
The state is offering the pot of funding after the Federal Emergency Management Agency ruled the public-services response-expenditures need did not meet the federal qualification threshold. Individual FEMA funding was provided to tornado victims, however community needs were denied.
Its estimated the public services delivered in Washington alone ranked at 24 million dollars.
