"The Science of Ripley's Believe It or Not" exhibition opens at PRM this weekend

The Peoria Riverfront Museum is the third facility to host an exhibit exploring the science behind Robert Ripley’s Believe it or Not collection. The Ripley’s franchise is known for its collection of oddities and anomalies.

The six-thousand square foot exhibit in Peoria gives visitors a chance to learn about the behind-the scenes world of Ripley’s. PRM President Sam Gappmayer says the “The Science Behind Ripley’s Believe It or Not” exhibit includes 80 displays and interactive activities:

“You can crawl through a model of what was the world’s largest snake. There’s a room where you can dance and it creates really amazing images of that on a wall. There’s lots of stuff to touch, and to interact with, and to listen to, and to participate with directly,” says Gappmayer.

Some other displays include a replica of one of the world’s tallest people, intricate micro-sculptures that fit in the eye of a needle and a Rolls Royce made of matchsticks. The exhibit opens Saturday to the public and cost an additional 5 dollars to enter.

Museum officials also plan to begin free parking at the facility for members and visitors to coincide with the launch of the Ripley’s exhibit. The traveling show will be in Peoria through September 7th.
