Peoria & Fulton Counties benefit from abandoned rail line

A nearly 25-mile stretch of abandoned railroad starting in West Peoria is getting a $616,000 infusion from the state.

The corridor that terminates about five miles west of Farmington will be used to develop the Hanna City Recreational Trail in Peoria and Fulton Counties.

The money is from the federal Recreational Trails Program and is administered through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

The total project cost is estimated to be $770,000.

State Senator Dave Koehler says he’s glad to see this investment in a bicycle trail that will benefit smaller communities like Hanna City and Farmington, in addition to Peoria.
