Peoria Council waits on proposed hotel management switch

The Peoria City Council wants more financial information before voting on a request to switch management at the Marriott Pere Marquette hotel.  Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports:

The City council deferred a request by the hotel developer, EM Properties, to switch management of the hotel from Marriott International to the Chicago-area firm ‘First Hospitality Group’. City Councilman Chuck Weaver says there’s currently not enough financial data to act on the request:

“None of us can make good decision when information comes to us over a two or three week period when it’s something that’s a $35 million decision that we’re looking at or that we’ve already dealt with, and we’ve got a duty to protect that money as best we can,” Weaver says.

In the meantime, the City plans to meet with financial backers of the project and other parties to hammer out details.  In other business, the Council approved annexing and re-zoning 34 acres of land in North Peoria off Route 91. That clears the way to build a medical facility and possible apartment buildings after an 18 month waiting period included in the agreement
