Schock introduces bill to help military surviving family members

U.S. Congressman Aaron Schock introduced legislation to give surviving military spouses more time to decide how best to spend death benefits.

Currently military spouses have one year to decide if money should go towards a retirement account or an education savings account for surviving children. Schock’s measure would extend the decision time to three years. Schock says that one year isn’t enough time for military family survivors to make such a significant financial decision. The bill heads to the House Ways and Means committee.
