Public comment needed on proposed electric transmission line

Peoria residents will get the chance this week to weigh in on where a new electric transmission line will be located. Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois is working to build the 345,000-volt Spoon River Transmission Line between Galesburg and Peoria. The goal is to help deliver more renewable energy to customers.

Ameren is collecting comment on the best possible route for the line. Two open house meetings are taking place in Peoria. The first one is tonight from 5 to 8 at the Grand Hotel and Conference Center on Brandywine Drive. The next one is tomorrow from 10 until 1. A second round of open house events will take place in June.

Ameren will then file a petition with the Illinois Commerce Commission later this summer. It could take up to a year for approval. The line is scheduled to go into service in 2018.
