South-West Kiwanis Club of Peoria donates tree on Arbor Day

The city of Peoria has a new Red Oak tree thanks to an annual donation by a local organization. The South-West Kiwanis Club of Peoria Friday donated and helped plant the tree on the corner of Washington and Eaton streets.

This is the 29th year the organization has donated a tree on Arbor Day to Peoria. David Johnson is the Chairman of the Conservation and Ag committee with the club.

“Trees are beneficial to ecology and just beautify the city. If they grow to maturity, you’re talking 40 years plus. So we can accomplish a lasting benefit for the community.”

Johnson says the Red Oak will grow to up to 50 feet. It cost the club less than 300 dollars for the tree.
