The Peoria County Board will consider salary increases for half the board members and two elected officials over four years. Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports the measure also proposes a stipend increase for the Sheriff:
The proposal calls for annual 2.5-percent pay increases for board members in even-numbered districts, the treasurer and clerk positions for four years. It also would increase an annual payment Sheriff Mike McCoy gets for serving as a public safety supervisor by $15,000. Board member Steve Morris says he’s comfortable with the proposed increase:
“It sunsets, it goes to zero at the end so this isn’t like the next guy comes along and says I get to enjoy the benefits of the fact that Mike McCoy was a long-tenured successful Sheriff in Peoria County. It goes back to zero at the end,” Morris says.
The Sheriff’s salary base would technically see zero increase over four years if the proposal is approved. In other business the County is also looking to review its financial procedures with part of the court system. The move follows questions some county officials have raised about the financial management of the public defender service.
