The Tazewell Teen Initiative is hosting a Town Hall meeting at Tremont High School Tuesday night. The event runs from 7:00p.m. to 8:30p.m. and is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration.
The event is part of National Alcohol Awareness month. The goal is to prevent underage drinking and talk about the societal and health effects of alcohol consumption.
According to a 2012 survey, 47-percent of High School Seniors in Illinois reported drinking alcohol in the past 30 days. Teens who drink are also more likely to engage in other risky behaviors such as unprotected sex or driving under the influence. Underage drinking is also associated with poor academic performance, violence, and serious car accidents. The town hall meeting called “Our Town, Our Health, Our Future” is open to the community members.
