Pricing changes chould be coming for those parking in downtown Peoria

The Peoria Downtown Advisory Commission unanimously approved pricing changes proposed for parking. The measure would see a decrease in the cost to park in a deck and increase the amount people pay at metered spaces on the street. The effort is to encourage those who work downtown to take up parking in the decks.

Mark Misselhorn chairs the commission. He says the changes will be good for downtown revitalization efforts:

“This will theoretically open up some more on street spaces and and Washington, Adams and Jefferson those portions that were being reconfigured with these large projects that are being opened up this calendar year. That is by design free to start out with to encourage and enhance new businesses.”

The changes still need the approval of the Peoria City Council. That is expected to happen later this month. The public education campaign, signage changes and meter recalibrations mean it will likely be June first before the new prices take effect.
