County Sheriff's office warning of scam

The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam. The office says individuals are impersonating employees of the Peoria County Circuit Clerks Office or other government offices and demanding payment from victims over the phone for fines or tickets.

The Sheriff’s Department says the Circuit Clerk’s Office never calls people seeking payments for unlawful incidents. Those with unpaid bills are typically sent to a collection agency which would only attempt to recover money through a letter.
