Peoria Chinese community to celebrate New Year

The Peoria Chinese Association is celebrating the Chinese New Year February 1st. The group is co-hosting the event with the Caterpillar Chinese Resource Group. The event will include traditional Chinese dancing, music and a talent show. Shao-bin Liu is with the Peoria Chinese Association. He says proceeds from the celebration will go towards the Washington Rotary Foundation:
“We have members who kind of helps clean the debris, maybe needed blankets for the victims and we decided for every sold ticket we are going to donate a dollar to this foundation.”

Liu says the event allows the local Chinese community to share its culture with other residents. He says there are about 2,000 members of the Chinese community in the area. Tickets are $13 for the show and an early lunch, or $6 for just the show. Information on tickets and the event is available at www.PeoriaChinese.org. 2014 is the Year of the Horse.
