Some Bradley University students celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day by donating their time at a local food bank. About ten students from four student organizations volunteered at the Midwest Food Bank in Peoria.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is also known as a national day of service where people are encouraged to volunteer to help organizations in their communities. Obi Ekwueme is the President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity at Bradley.

"We live in a community being on the campus of Bradley University where everyone who surrounds us is pretty much...they're not the wealthiest of people. So it's important for us to give back to them. This is just one avenue where we can do that."

Ekwueme says Dr. King was also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He says the group also volunteers at various organizations in Peoria throughout the year. The BU groups helped the Midwest Food Bank pack nutritional meals for families in need.
