The Illinois EPA is allowing Caterpillar to store hazardous waste at its Mossville plant for up to three months. The variance allows Cat to temporarily store the waste without having to obtain a permit and operate as a hazardous waste facility. The state EPA says it granted the request because extreme weather delayed Cat’s ability to schedule removal of the wastes in a timely manner.
