Peoria prepared for major snow storms

The City of Peoria was prepared to respond to  the area's first major snowfall that occurred Sunday. That’s the message from City Public Works Director Mike Rogers. He says the city has 30 plows ready to respond when needed:

“We’re prepared in case we do see signs that we need to call people in, we’ll call them in and the trucks are ready to go so we don’t have to take that additional time with the loader trying to put the salt in the truck. So everything is going to be ready to go,” Rogers says.

Rogers says the city has budgeted $227,000 for salt this year. He says the city also has additional stockpiles of salt because the last few winters were milder than average. The city budgeted more than $300,000 a year on overtime costs because of winter weather.
