Peoria health officials: get vaccine before flu peak

The Peoria City/County Health Department is urging residents to get a flu shot before next month.  Administrator Greg Chance says even though flu activity is low in the Peoria-area, the flu season often peaks in January.

He says now is a good time to get vaccinated because it takes two weeks for the flu protection to kick-in.

Officials recommend that everyone older than six months should get a flu shot, especially pregnant women, young children and the elderly.  The push is part of Vaccinate Illinois Week.
